The Catholic Church in 2040 - a lesson from Mary.
At our Senior Leadership Conference last week we were asked to imagine the Catholic Church in 2040.
Whilst most of the views expressed in the room were somewhat gloomy, I took an optimistic view of a Church that would be thriving and continuing to have a place in the social fabric of the world in 2040.
There is no doubt in my mind that Catholic Education will play a large part in realising that optimistic view of vitality.
However, we are reminded this week, as we mark the Assumption of Mary, and in an article that appeared in CathNews in March 2023 which featured Luxembourg Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich (Chairperson of the 2023-2024 Synod of Bishops), of the other very real possibility and reason for my optimism.
That is the increasing recognition of the role that women must play in the Catholic Church.Mary is an ever present reminder to us and the Church of the central role that women have held in the Christian tradition.
It will be the inspiration of Mary, and I am sure her prayer for us, that will guide and enliven the Church towards 2040.

Kitchen Table Conversation - Indigenous Voice to Parliament Referendum
What is a Kitchen Table Conversation?
A Kitchen Table Conversation is a wonderful opportunity to join with others and listen, learn and reflect on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum that will be held in the coming months.
What is the Referendum?
The referendum is the culmination of a decade-long process that gained momentum with the release of the Uluru Statement from the Heart in 2017, when over 250 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander delegates offered an invitation to non-Indigenous Australians to walk with them to create a better future.
Join us for a Conversation!
These kitchen table conversations are your opportunity to come together as a community, better understand the issues and talk about the pathway forward.
Date: 17 August, 29 August, 11 September, 28 September
Time: 3:30 - 4:45pm
Location: Online via Zoom
